Mayor Michael Joseph is an attorney and the mayor for the city of North Miami Beach, Florida. He holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Florida International University and a Juris Doctorate from St. Thomas University. Mayor Joseph worked for the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services where he was instrumental in improving the immigration application process at a national level. Today, he is a practicing attorney as a partner with the law firm of Galbut Walters & Associates specializing in civil rights and land use.

Mayor Joseph was instilled with important Judeo-Christian values by his parents to always be an “overcomer” by his father, a pastor, and his mother whose example of diligence and hard work define his personal and professional life. As an elected official and through his private practice, He has remained steadfast in his service to the community in sponsoring immigration clinics and expungement events. Mayor Joseph is frequently called up to participate in discussions regarding US-Haiti foreign and immigration policies to improve the welfare of the Haitian Diaspora.

Serving on the North Miami Beach City Commission since 2018, he has developed a hard-fought reputation for representing everyone equally in the community with integrity and transparency. A few of Mayor Joseph’s accomplishments include:

Successfully returned NMB Water to city control and sponsored the return to quarterly water billing reducing the costs to residents;
Secured millions in public grants for community centers and city park improvements;
Sponsored the creation of the Freebee transportation program to residents;
Led the adoption of ethics code reform that prohibits abuse of power by elected officials and staff.
Attainment of an AA Bond rating, which opens doors for economic development; and,
Collaboration with the Haitian Lawyers Association led to the creation of legal aid clinics for immigration, landlord-tenant, expungement issues which was recognized with the 2023 Voluntary Bar Association Pro Bono Award by the Florida Supreme Court.

Mayor Joseph is a member of the US Conference of Mayors, National League of Cities, Florida League of Mayors, African-American Mayors Association, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), 100 Black Men of America, the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, 5000 Role Models of Excellence, the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO) and the National Haitian American Elected Officials Network (NHAEON).

He and his wife reside in the Sunray West neighborhood of North Miami Beach with their two children.
